How to Create a News Website That Makes Money
Instructions to Create a News Website That Makes Money Instructions to Create a News Website That Makes Money Making a news site begins with discovering content. Be that as it may, that is just the initial step. Odds are, you need to bring in cash. While it tends to be hard to create dollars notwithstanding traffic, you can help your odds with four simple advances. Choose if You Need a Paywall It is the simplest choice to make, yet in addition the most perilous. A paywall expects individuals to pay you to get your substance. Be that as it may, it could likewise definitely cut your number of guests. To make your paywall fruitful, you should have a justification for why your site is worth cash to your guests. What amount of your news content is one of a kind? On the off chance that the appropriate response isn't a lot, at that point your guests will basically go where they can get a similar data without paying. In the event that you post content quicker than your rivals, you could situate yourself as the main hotspot for news. However, what you offer must be convincing to such an extent that individuals wont be eager to hold on to get it elsewhere. There are additionally complexities in setting up a paywall that you ought to consider, which can cost cash in advance. On the off chance that you cannot recover that venture effectively, you might need to search somewhere else for income. Gain Money by Posting Google Ads Youve likely observed Google advertisements on numerous sites. Its simple to set up these ads on your media site and alter them to mirror your substance. In the event that you focus on these advertisements to your crowd, its considerably more likely youll get snaps and remuneration. The plan of the advertisement space won't detract from your substance or illustrations, so perusers will at present spotlight on your data. Be that as it may, understand that the way to bringing in cash with Google advertisements is to have a ton of site guests. On the off chance that you have a specialty site, you wont make a fortune with these kinds of advertisements. You should work to stand out enough to be noticed and clicks as could be expected under the circumstances. Post Traditional Ads to Boost Website Revenue Pennant promotions are close to as old as the web itself. They are the most conventional method of bringing in cash from a news site since they arent vastly different than promotions youd find in a paper or on the radio or TV. In a perfect world, a publicist would pay you a level rate to put an advertisement. That way, you wouldnt need to stress over what number of individuals visit your site or snap on the promotion to get installment. The publicist will probably need to know your site details before paying for advertisement space and will put together their installment with respect to what number of eyeballs see the promotion or snap it. Be set up to offer exact numbers and acknowledge that the installment will most likely be not as much as what youd like. That makes it enticing to put flags, catches and other promotion connects wherever on your site with the goal that these modest quantities of cash include. Be that as it may, you hazard killing your perusers. An excessive number of promotions decrease the polished methodology of your site, so structure the territories that youll save for publicists and spare the rest for content. Likewise, recall youll need to structure a dealing and receipt framework to arrange the promotions. You may invest the vast majority of your energy posting and expelling advertisements and following installments rather than on your substance. Be careful Adding an Affiliate Program to a News Site An offshoot program is a famous site income generator for some locales however ought to be drawn nearer with alert for any media site. Individuals bring in cash by creating content about an item, at that point connecting to a spot where perusers can get it. For a media master, this presumably seems like an infomercial. On the off chance that youre a writer, that presents an issue for adding an offshoot program to your news site. It could without much of a stretch create the impression that the explanation you posted a story on this years most well known political novel was exclusively to give a connect to individuals to get it. The notoriety you have worked for yourself and your site isnt worth discoloring it along these lines. However, in the event that your news site is less news coverage situated, a subsidiary program may function admirably. A radio broadcast could interface its rundown of the weeks Top 10 hits to a spot where audience members could buy the music, gave it doesnt disrupt the norms on payola. A magazine could feature spring styles and connection to stores where the things can be found. A media site can be a moneymaker. You Are What You Drive
You Are What You Drive Not the automotive, per se. I am not notably interested in what make or mannequin you drive. Although lots of individuals assume that their choice of automobile reflects their sense of favor, their status, or their virility, many of us merely want a safe and reliable technique of transportation. Many extra of us need to, and embrace the thought of, settling for what we can afford, so we own used vehicles or smaller, extra economic models. Thatâs not my point. I have this theory that your automotive displays your strategy to taking good care of business: your job, your consideration to detail, how nicely organized you're in general. I knew a recruiter once who used to send someone out to watch applicantsâ automobiles. If they have been well cared for and well organized, she would are likely to consider them once they talked about being organized on the job. But if the cars have been a large number: soiled, full of trash, generally disrepair, it threw up a red flag for her. A autom obile, for many of us, is an enormous funding. My automotive prices as a lot as my parentsâ starter home did within the early Seventies. Itâs often one of the largest money owed in many households, after the mortgage or faculty educations. Many of us finance our car over three to 5 years. So it matter how we treat this investment after we make it. Depreciation is an accounting term, of course; it means âa discount within the value of an asset with the passage of time, due specifically to wear and tear.â In my thoughts, itâs also the alternative of appreciation (in both the accounting and holistic sense of the word.) When we first get a brand new automobile, we treasure it. We clear it typically, we make certain it will get washed and polished, we deal with it as if itâs essential. But after time, we stop investing in it and it depreciates as a result of we appreciate it less. What does your car look like? Is it neat and clear, or is there trash on or under the seats? Whe n was the final time it was washed and detailed? How current is the routine maintenance in your car? We spend plenty of hours in our automotive, and your tolerance for filth, disorganization and disrepair will come into play during your daily commute. Your tolerance for disrepair also comes into play in your job. There are plenty of individuals who say that they know where every thing is and by no means lose a minute of productiveness, no matter what a disaster their desk or files look like. I canât purchase it. Even if you're satisfied that you could perform in a mess, your colleagues arenât. According to a 2012 survey by Adecco, the staffing company, 57 % of workers surveyed said that they judged fellow workers by how messy or clear their desks had been â" and that they attributed messiness to laziness. So when you finish this submit and exit to gauge your car, check in in your bossâs automobile. If itâs pristine, she or he could also be judging you by greater than the qu ality of your last report. Full disclosure: as I researched messy desk / clean desk articles for this publish, I discovered nearly an equal variety of articles that claimed solely a messy desk or a clear desk was the key to productivity, creativity or good habits. I suspect it might be straightforward to establish who wrote which article if we checked out their cars. Do you drive a messy automobile or a clean one? And does it matter? Leave me a comment. A larger number of individuals are alive than at any earlier point throughout the entire existence of human progress and US joblessness rates are down again at 4.7%. The degree of rivalry is scaring. With the times of lucking into an extraordinary situation with a disappointing CV a long ways behind us, we have to perceive the significance of demonstrating our incentive before we even go into a meeting room. That is the place side hustles enter the condition. Rounding out your CV with an auxiliary interest or two (rather than, state, your Frisbee aptitudes) is an incredible method to make your application significantly additionally intriguing. Be that as it may, what makes side hustles so deserving of your time and consideration? Great inquiry. They're Forward-Thinking Pursuits In the event that I needed to portray the advanced business world in single word, it would be variable (or even unstable). It isn't only that computerization is annihilating and making whole businesses, or that the deluge of amazing expository apparatuses has changed how we see execution; it's likewise that the speed of activity has hugely expanded. Headways in advanced innovation have allowed us gadgets that are adaptable, ground-breaking, and equipped for keeping us associated and imparting over the whole planet. Presently we should be quicker and more astute than before just to stay aware of the pace of life. So, a potential questioner will consider what you bring to the table and marvel, Can this individual keep up as well as be at the front of the pack? In the event that you can highlight a side hustle autonomous of any conventional boss, you'll mark yourself as somebody fit for suspecting ahead, building up a favorable position over the individuals who never worked outside of a 9-to-5 framework. Side Businesses Suggest Skill Diversity It's anything but difficult to get into a trench following a 'set' vocation way and discover your aptitudes deteriorating. Taking on another gig outside of that way (regardless of whether it falls inside comprehensively a similar field) presents an absolutely new test with its own scope of dangers and prizes. Dealing with your time, managing new individuals, conquering the obstacles that accompany working for yourself these things all grow your capacities in manners that imminent businesses will discover engaging. All things considered, pretty much every business needs to grow and turn out to be considerably increasingly effective, and that is an undertaking that incredibly profits by alternate points of view. In any event, something that doesn't seem like it would demonstrate helpful in different regions like a point by point comprehension of getting, putting away and dispatching crickets can create flashes of motivation. They Make Your Story More Interesting Each expert grown-up has a story to tell about their working life. Their victories, their disappointments, their disarrays, difficulties and arrangements. Taking on low maintenance lucrative plan is an extraordinary method to tissue out your story. You'll have the chance to compose and discuss how it started, what encounters it prompted, and how it removed you from your typical daily practice. Envision having gone from a generally run of the mill work on a goat farm to opening for business as an expert skull cleaner, as Carla Brauer of Dermestidarium did. That is a vital account to have on your side when you're at the last meeting stage and different up-and-comers are progressively experienced. Compelling ideas. You probably won't wind up doing whatever captivating, however regardless of whether you're simply washing vehicles, you'll have a comment about how the entire procedure caused you to feel and trained you about what your identity is. Side Hustles Demonstrate Drive Drive is a critical thing to have. It's what isolates the individuals who fizzle and surrender from the individuals who continue trying and coming up short until they discover achievement. What's more, even in the individuals who never fully make the progress they focused on, it's smarter to push ahead than capitulating to idleness (consider sharks, or even Regret Iyer, a figure I find especially moving). With a side hustle on your record, you give you that you have the drive to prop up when life tosses a few barricades in your manner, something effective organizations all search for. They would prefer not to enlist individuals who'll simply turn over and surrender when set under tension. They need representatives who'll consistently scan for approaches to continue onward, accomplish more, locate another arrangement, since they're the ones you need around you in an emergency. They Can Be As Big (Or As Small) As You Want Regardless of whether I've sold you on the general benefits of running a side hustle, you may figure it isn't something you can sensibly seek after. Maybe you think you'll never have sufficient opportunity to work around your standard occupation, or that the working costs will be restrictive. All things considered, you ought to consider that there's a tremendous measure of adaptability by they way you can approach setting something up, and it probably won't be as hard as you might suspect to discover something that will suit your own conditions. In case you're worried about worry, for example, you can concoct a choice that doesn't require such much consideration regularly, permitting you to save a decent measure of time saved for unwinding. Mechanization is your new closest companion. Regardless of whether you definitely realize that you can undoubtedly set up side hustle stores through stages like WooCommerce, Magento, and Shopify, you probably won't know about the presence of practices like outsourcing, something that permits you to skirt 99% of the pragmatic parts of online deals by leaving them to wholesalers (leaving you to concentrate on marking and advertising). When you can set up a store that handles the vast majority of the retail procedure for you and requires just insignificant administration, can you truly make the case that you don't have the opportunity to run a side hustle? What may your side hustle be? Selling an item, offering an assistance, sharing your aptitude? 7 Resume Words You Should Never Use
7 Resume Words You Should Never Use 7 Resume Words You Should Never Use In the event that you are confounded, let me reveal to you that resume words do have a huge effect in your odds of getting chose. Have you ever known about the platitude Initial introduction is the last impression. At that point, you unquestionably would prefer not to make a negative early introduction of you on the spotters. For that you better stay away from the accompanying resume words. Individual Pronouns Utilization of words like 'I', 'me' or 'my' in your resume make you look very amateurish. Instead of beginning the sentences with 'I' or 'my', it is consistently a superior plan to discard them from the entirety of your sentences. Something else, this may obstruct your odds of getting a meeting. Negative Words We realize that utilizing negative words, anyplace it might be, leaves a terrible impression of you on others. The equivalent can be said for a resume. Composing negative sentences doesn't help you by any stretch of the imagination, rather here and there it might lessen your odds in landing the position. Dependable It is one of the major models that you ought to satisfy regardless of what sort of employment you are applying for. Or if nothing else the organization considers it a need. That is the reason, there is no requirement for you to specify this expressly in your resume. The organization may think you are utilizing this since you don't have anything else to state about yourself. Diligent employee Another of the words that the organization doesn't need you to compose unequivocally. They anticipate that you should try sincerely on the off chance that you are finding a new line of work. Composing this resume word will just make your resume look long and exhausting. Aggressive You may have composed this word to accentuate that you are not apathetic, yet this resume word can go about as a twofold edged blade. So there is no requirement for you to express the self-evident.

5 ways to keep your employees happy
5 ways to keep your employees happy 5 ways to keep your employees happy You see it all the time: midnight emails, dinnertime or weekend conference calls, projects finishing up in the wee hours of the morning. No one seems to work nine-to-five anymore â" not you, not your employees. To explore this âwork anytime, anywhereâ phenomenon, a new study conducted by the business-to-business division of Staples gets at the heart of employee attitudes toward the shifting ways we work, and what keeps them happy in their jobs. While most employees are happy at work despite working longer hours, employers canât rest on their laurels, and keeping employees happy is a job in itself. Study results The Staples study revealed surprising statistics that cause companies to look at workplace happiness in a new way and, more importantly, understand how to create and maintain a happy, motivated and productive staff. While 52 percent of office workers say they are suffering from burnout as a result of the hours they work, 86 percent are still happy at work and motivated to rise in their organizations, so thereâs more to workplace happiness than what we might initially think. To help explain this dichotomy, I spoke to Dan Schawbel, founder of WorkplaceTrends.com. According to Schawbel, employees are overworked and burnt out, yet they are still happy, loyal and interested in moving up to management in the next few years. Theyve accepted the new realities of the workplace. He added that in todays world, workers are always on call and have to put in more hours for the same or less pay. As a culture, weve accepted this change because of the integration of smartphones, wearables and tablets in our daily lives. But that doesnt mean sacrificing happiness. Here are five tips to keeping that upbeat feeling: 1. Hours arenât everything There is very little difference between the hours worked by happy employees and unhappy ones. Workload doesnât necessarily impact happiness directly, but the way people work does. Given the rise in technology that enables us to work anywhere and anytime, employees are now working in ways that best meet their schedules. Encouraging employees to work outside ânormalâ hours â" flexible scheduling â" can result in better, more productive work and increased happiness. 2. Invest in your employees The happiest workers are more likely to say that their employers provided them with a wider range of technologies and tools to help them better do their jobs. For example, 50 percent of the happiest workers were supplied with laptops, compared to only 23 percent of the least-happy workers. Spending to provide employees with the latest and greatest technology will ultimately mean happier, more loyal staff. 3. Encourage breaks Your employees arenât taking enough breaks and they should be. While itâs no surprise the unhappiest workers were more likely to feel they were unable to leave their desks to take a break (69 percent), too many happy employees echo the same sentiment (44 percent). Encourage periodic breaks for staff to recharge and increase both productivity and morale. 4. Implement a telecommuting/flex work policy If you donât have flex scheduling, consider adding it ASAP. Flexible working has a crucial role in employee happiness. About 63 percent of the happiest workers said they were able to either telecommute, work flex-time or both. This compared to only 22 percent of the least-happy workers. Implementing an official flexible work policy will encourage employees to work in the environment that suits them. 5. Go green The happiest workers are more likely to work in companies with eco-friendly policies of some kind (74 percent). Because sustainability is becoming more and more important for employees, it plays a huge factor in talent retention and helps keep employees motivated. Small changes can go a long way to keeping employees happy and loyal. Weâre moving toward a workforce that works where they want, when they want, so itâs crucial to keep them motivated. Overall, employees may be happy, but employers need to keep them that way. Make sure they have the tools, the flexibility, and the work environment thatâs best for them. After all, a happy, motivated employee is a productive employee.

It is also the first step to receive an interview call from a prospective employer. The goal of the profile section is to let employers know what you have done and what you are capable of doing. A good resume profile section should have information that relates to your personal characteristics and skills. For example, if you are a writer, it would be ideal to include a sample of your writing skills. If you know how to use Excel, you may want to include a list of jobs you have held in this particular program. When writing a resume profile, there are several methods to follow. You can write your own; however, this takes a lot of time. Instead, look for samples of resumes that are in circulation. Try to obtain one from an online job database or through the resumes of others in your field. These samples usually come with different formatting, so they can be easily edited.Another way to obtain sample resumes is to check out old correspondence. Often times, your former supervisors will keep a resume database. You may find a letter or two from them that includes samples of different resumes. They may have been assigned to create a sample profile for someone who is applying for the same position. Many times, these samples will be outdated. Finally, read as many as you can about resumes and writing. Take notes on what you learn from these sources. This will help you as you try to write your own resume. It's important to realize that resume sections have to be written differently from one another. For example, you don't have to focus solely on the skills that you have, but also include the jobs you have held. You must make sure the sections you are using are appropriate for the type of job that you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for a telecommuter position, you would want to include this information as well as the hours worked. This will help you stand out from the other applicants.Lastly, remember that employers are not looking for your resume in its entirety. They want to see the summary or what you have written about. Writing your resume profile section helps give an outline of what you have done and what you are capable of doing.Writing a resume is not difficult when you know how to do it. If you still have trouble, consider asking a friend or mentor for help. If you don't know where to start, you can always use an online resume editor.

New workplace pension laws What you need to know
New workplace pension laws What you need to know by Michael Cheary Itâs no secret that workplace pensions are one of the best ways to save for the future. In order that no employee misses out, a new pension auto-enrolment system was introduced in 2012 to provide employees with an easy, hassle-free way to save into work place pensions, and to ensure that employers contribute too.If you are eligible and arenât already paying into your companyâs pension plan, your employer must automatically enrol you into a scheme. Not sure how youâll be affected? We spoke to Legal Generalâs Peter Elliott, who explains the key things you need to know about auto-enrolment:EligibilityIf youâre aged between 22 and the state pension age, work in the UK, donât belong to a pension scheme already and earn more than £10,000 a year then you are eligible for auto-enrolment.By now many people will already be signed up to their employerâs scheme, but if your company only employs a small number of people you might be among those yet to be enrolled. Companies of all sizes must have enrolled their employees into schemes by 2018. There is more information on enrolment on the GOV.UK website. You can opt out of the scheme if you want to, but remember that if you do this you wonât benefit from your employerâs contributions. How auto-enrolment worksOnce in the scheme, you make regular contributions from your salary and your employer pays in too. This will contribute to your personal pension pot to provide for your retirement.Youâll also get tax relief on your contributions, which makes your money go a little further.By 2018, assuming you donât opt-out, itâll be compulsory for an amount equal to at least 8 per cent of your qualifying earnings to be put into your pension. Your qualifying earnings is the amount you earn before tax up to a current maximum limit of £42,385 per year and less the lower earnings threshold of £5824; limits change at the start of every tax year. At least 3 per cent of this must be paid by your employer.Remember, you can always choose to pay more than the minimum and your employer may also offer more generous contributions as part of their benefits package.Moving jobsIf youâre changing jobs, donât worry, your previous pension wonât suddenly disappear. You may be able to combine your old pension with your new one. However there may be fees involved in a transfer so itâs worth asking for independent financial advice before going ahead.Tracking your pensionThe pension company will provide you with a personal statement once a year showing how your pot is progressing, and will usually provide a secure online account management facility so you can monitor it 24/7.If you think you may have a pension with a previous employer, contact the Pension Tracing Service and theyâll try and find it for you.For more information, download Legal Generalâs free eBook, Rough Guide to Work and Money at www.roughguidefinance.com to find out more useful tips on how to minimise y our workplace costs and make the most of your benefits. Perelman The proliferation of books and consultants ready to prep candidates for the traditional interview process has many employers working on getting away from the âusualâ questions. Ask any candidate worth his or her salt what her greatest weakness is, and youâre likely to get a response that goes something like this: âI sometimes struggle with getting too involved in my work. I have to force myself to take time off and relax occasionally.â Surely a weakness any potential employer could live with. With traditional interview questions becoming stale, many recruiters believe that behavioral-based interviewing (BBI) is the key to predicting how a candidate would perform on the job and fit into the organization. The driving concept behind BBI is that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. BBI has been around since the late 1970s. Industrial psychologists studied the effectiveness of traditional interviews and concluded that they arent very effective in predicting a candidateâs ability to do a job. The questions are often hypothetical. Job candidates end up giving hypothetical answers that sound great but arent a true representation of what they would do in real work situations. An example of a traditional question might be: How would you address an angry customer? It isnt difficult to figure out what the interviewer probably wants to hear, so candidates end up saying something like, I would politely ask them to tell me the problem, then I would offer my assistance in solving the problem. That doesnt sound too bad, but it doesnt represent what someone would actually do in that situation. The primary difference between traditional and behavioral based interviewing is that traditional interviewing asks generalized questions such as, âWhat motivates you to put forth your greatest effort?â while BBI asks for specific examples from the recent past, such as: Give me an example of a time recently when you needed to adjust quickly. What did you do and how did it turn out? Next: How to handle the BBI. Structure your answers for maximum impact in your next interview.

10 Last-Minute, Low-Budget Gifts for Recruiters
10 Last-Minute, Low-Budget Gifts for Recruiters You dont always outlay money and buy people gifts to show your appreciation. Sometimes, a genuine thank you, personalised email or phone-call is really all it takes to make someone feel special (warm fuzzy). Agency recruiters are hard workers and arent the type to expect gifts, anyway. However, if youre working with an excellent recruiter or have a colleague you simply couldnt bare to not have by your side, a little gift might catch them by (pleasant) surprise and is a really nice way to show you notice the value they add to your career. Stuck for ideas with a relatively modest budget? Check out these 10 simple ideas: 1. Table pot plant A bit of greenery is usually a very welcome addition to someones workplace! If you think they have the time to look after a live one, go for that (just make sure you pick a species that survives indoor environments). Another alternative is a fake pot plant, which while it wont omit any fresh odour, will still brighten a desk up, without the maintenance! 2. Chocolate This one speaks for itself. And Im not talking about just a standard chocolate bar here. People arent really used to going and buying themselves a gourmet selection of chocolate treats for the office, so delectable cocoa concoctions tend to make for great, indulgent gifts. 3. Stationery While recruiters spend hour after hour in the office, stationery tends to be a bit whatever goes. Recruiters are forever needing to jot down quick notes, attend meetings and file bits and pieces away so why not go for some nice notepads, pens or folders, that have a pattern on them you know theyll like, based on their personality? 4. Coffee mug Recruiters tend to be huge coffee and tea drinkers it kind of comes with the territory. No one likes using a stained old mug from the kitchen cupboard so why not buy your recruiter a nice mug for their desk? You can personalise it if you really want to go for it or even get one with a biscuit holder. How cool? 5. Bottle of wine Sometimes its nice to receive a carefully chosen bottle of wine. Its an easy thing that will always be used probably sooner rather than later! 6. Tea-light candle There is always room for a candle, whether be on someones desk, or at home somewhere. Go for the ones with really nice smelling fragrances like chair spice or vanilla coconut! 7. Hot water bottle When the weather outside is frightful, why not make their desk time delightful? A hot water bottle is the perfect thing to keep recruiters warm in the office in the colder months. For those of you in the Southern Hemisphere experiencing a heat wave, why not opt for a desk fan instead? You know, one of the battery-operated ones you can clip onto the side of your computer? 8. Cinema vouchers Everyone loves going to the cinema! Cinema vouchers will always get used, and fit nicely in a card, so youll save $$$ on wrapping paper. Bonus! 9. Cookbook With online recipe sites and cooking hubs, people are less likely to go out and buy themselves a brand new cookbook, leaving a great opportunity open for you! Go the extra mile and grab them a cook book stand as an extra, so they can choose their favourite page and have it open on their kitchen bench as a feature piece. 10. Puzzles Recruiters often spend a lot of time on long conference calls on the phone, which can result in severe levels of boredom. Why not opt for a jig-saw puzzle that they can keep at their desk, or something else to keep them entertained / mesmerised? Perhaps you could opt for a Rubiks cube or Newtons Cradle. I do hope these gift ideas help. Have any other ideas? Let us know in the comments or tweet me!

4 Steps to Building a Killer Résumé
4 Steps to Building a Killer Résumé I have reviewed a ton of résumés over my 33+ year career as an executive leader; most of them are not very well done; they all look the same. Most people research the templates that are out there and select the boiler plate they think is the best. This normally means the one that is the quickest and easiest to complete!evalThere are two âmoments of truthâ when you submit your résumé to an organization. The first is when the human resources folks get it. This is the 3rd party bottleneck you must pass through if you want a shot at the person who is filling the position. HR people donât really have a detailed knowledge of what the position requires. They are assessing the incoming résumés from a position outline provided by the hiring manager. How is your résumé going to capture the HR guyâs attention if it doesnât stand out from the others; if it isnât special and unique in some way?The second moment of truth is when the hiring manager gets your résumé and decides w hether or not to invite you in for an interview. Now the scrutiny is at a much more granular level in terms of your background and qualifications. Again, if your résumé is no different than everyone elseâs why should you earn the right to a face to face meeting? Before you engage with any organization to explore opportunities, you need a résumé strategy. The process most people use is to shop their look-alike résumé around to the organizations that appear to have an opportunity available. They flog themselves with the hope that their capabilities will somehow resonate with the recipient. This approach has a low probability of success. Here are the 4 steps to develop your résumé strategy:1. Be clear on your TARGET MARKET; those organizations that you are interested in whether they have a current opening or not. Name them; be as specific as you can.?2. RESEARCH each organization thoroughly. Determine as best you can what their strategy is; the challenges they face. This will gi ve you insights on the skills and competencies they may require.?3. Build a CUSTOMIZED version of your résumé for EACH organization you approach. Donât flog your boiler plate résumé to as many organizations as you can. Itâs about customizing a version of your résumé that addresses the specific needs of each company and the attributes they require. If you are interested in 10 companies, you should prepare 10 versions of your resume.?4. Answer the question âWHY SHOULD I HIRE YOU?â This is always the killer question given the many other people interested in the same opportunity. The answer canât be vague. It should declare as specifically as possible why YOU and no one else should be recruited. It canât be, for example, âI have significant marketing experienceâ; many others could (and will) make the same claim. The way to do this is to create your personal ONLY Statement: âI am the ONLY one thatâ¦â (http://www.bedifferentorbedead.com/blog/item/257). This will clearly communicate the unique value you offer relative to others.?Remember, you are marketing yourself; your résumé must make you stand-out in the crowd.

If youre desperate to escape the monotony of 9-5, but think every job is the same; think again. There are a whole host of weird and wonderful alternative career options that wave goodbye to set working hours, the constraints of an office, and the ever-depressing same old, same old. And the best thing? Most of these jobs arent looking for a whole host of qualifications and experience in the field; theyre just looking for passionate folk who are ready to take on whatever challenges get thrown their way. Here, we take a look at five of these alternative career options that can help you escape the 9-5: 1. Become a carer If youre caring, compassionate and crave to make a difference; a job in care in the perfect career. This career path goes well beyond the 9-5, and you can rest assured that no two days are the same. Whats more, you can spend your days transforming the lives of vulnerable children and adults in your area. If youre looking to escape the 9-5, there really is nothing better. A job in care can also take many forms, which is way its such a sought after career option for so many people. For example; if you wanted to bring the laughter of a child into your home and help improve a childs quality of life, you could become a foster carer. With generous fees and training included; its a surprise that so few people view fostering as a career option. Parenting is a full on, 24/7 career but is a great way to develop new skills and escape the 9-5. If fostering isnt for you, you could consider a career in a residential home, or even providing respite or domiciliary care for the elderly. These are just some options you could explore, but these jobs are certainly a far cry from the 9-5 grind. Obtaining a Master degree in Social Work online will open several more doors for you. Not only will you be viewed as an expert in the field (and thus far more likely to be hired by any potential employers) but youll also learn more skills on the way. If you already work a 9-5 job, but dont have a way to escape just yet, then consider online school, as youll be able to balance your education with working. In a couple years, youll be a certified expert and capable of applying to a plethora of carer positions with a resume and cover letter anyone would be proud of. 2. Teach English abroad Another way you can kiss goodbye to your office job and experience a completely different world would be to teach English abroad. Not just for graduates and gap year students, working abroad opens up a whole host of opportunities. You can escape your desk job and set working hours, for a new country and culture; you can meet a diverse range of people, and really enrich your life. You can choose to work in just about any location imaginable, and as long as you have people skills and a good grasp of the English language you could be considered for a role in this field. Take a look at the TEFL website for support, advice, and guidance on taking your first steps in this new career. 3. Dog walker Our third and final alternative career option for those looking to escape the 9-5 routine is to become a dog walker. So many families that own dogs struggle to give them the adequate walks they need; after all, this clashes fiercely with their own 9-5 office job. If you love animals, fresh air, and fancy giving your neighbours a helping hand; this could be ideal. While you will need to do some groundwork initially to build up the client base, this could be a hugely rewarding career or addition to a part time or freelance job. Just make sure youre business savvy, in-tune with dogs, and completely dedicated yes, you still need to work even if theres a blizzard outside. If youre interested in becoming a professional dog walker, working your own hours, and spending your day looking after peoples pampered pooches; check out this article on WikiHow for some top tips on getting started. These are just a small proportion of the amazing jobs out there that break the 9-5 mould. Chief executive optimist - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Chief executive optimist - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Kareem Mayan emailed me to say that he couldnt believe hed never heard of Life Is Good, a company whose founders Bert and John Jacobs go by the respective titles chief executive optimist and chief creative optimist. I cant believe I havent either, but now that theres a great article about them in inc magazine, I have. From the article: Sixteen years ago they hawked $10 T-shirts featuring their own artwork from a card table on the corner, making themselves scarce whenever the cops swung past. Its a one-way street so one of us could always keep watch, says Bert Jacobs, who is now 41, the older brother by three years. We had a folding table so we could pack up quickly. Its great to hear the founders of a $100 million business saying things like: Dont determine that youre going to be happy when you get the new car or the big promotion or when you meet that special person, explains John. You can decide that youre going to be happy today. John also points out that the assertion is, in fact, a modest one. Its important that were saying Life is good, not Life is great or Life is perfect,' he says. Theres a big difference. We know that there are lots of bad things in the world. But overall life is good. You have to focus on the good things and help others to focus on the good things. I agree, life IS good :o) Thanks for visiting my blog. Family Balance Is For Everybody
Work/Family Balance Is For Everybody Sometimes the subject of work/family balance seems to be all about parents and kids, but that would be erroneous. Everyone needs to take time off the job and do something that renews their spirit so they can come back to work refreshed and ready to go. Navigating uncertain times in your job as a single person has a different set of challenges because single adults are often living away from the network of family. Family can certainly be stressful, but family also is a support system for most of us. We need to be part of some definition of family even if that family is an online support group we never see in real life. In some ways, parents have more clear cut boundaries about work commitments. A child comes with obvious responsibilities and you clearly must say no, I cant work late sometimes to take care of those responsibilities. A single person sounds selfish, even to their own ears, when they want to say no, I cant work late because they paid for a yoga class and it is not refundable. Why is the idea of losing out on a yoga class fee selfish? I dont think it is, particularly if its an expensive class. Everybody needs to have the ability to do these things outside of your work schedule: maintain friendships take care of your health find leisure activities you enjoy Maybe we should call it work/life balance, instead, because people who live alone still need to have an identity outside of their job description. What do you think? How have you been able to maintain this important balance in your life?

Teamwork Lessons From The Little League World Series - Work It Daily
Teamwork Lessons From The Little League World Series - Work It Daily Every year, in late August, the Little League World Series presents outstanding examples of athletic competition, drama, the amazing talent of 11 and 12-year-old players from around the world, and sportsmanship at the highest level. Interestingly, behind the on-the-field performances, there are some fascinating lessons for teams and team leaders in other settings. Thereâs even a good message for job seekers on effectively presenting their team accomplishments on their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and during interviews. Related: How To Boost Office Teamwork Through Team Sports This insightful perspective comes from a source that is a little surprising: the rules of Little League Baseball. In most organizations, the ârulesâ are often the constraints the irritate employees â" and lead to âdisciplineâ if theyâre broken. Human Resources may love rules, but they frequently donât even understand the difference between policies â" which can be âbrokenâ â" and rules â" which should never be broken. Is there an employee or customer anywhere that hasnât run into the dreadful âitâs just policy?â Yet, for most people thereâs an environment where rules are not only tolerated, theyâre recognized as critical to success. In the world of games, there are rules that have defined the very nature of the game and its success: âGo Directly to Jail â" Do Not Collect $200â in Monopoly Queen of Spades in âHeartsâ âNo Trumpâ in Bridge In Little League Baseball, there are several rules unique to Little League. They are not part of baseball at other organized or professional levels. They include: Starters can re-enter. Multiple positions A player may pitch a maximum of six innings per week. Designated runner (Once per inning/Once per player) Everybody must play â" everybody must bat. The pitching rules are even more constraining with maximum pitch counts and prescribed days of rest based on all pitch counts. Thoughts For Leaders And Managers I have challenged managers in predominantly customer service setting to consider the implications of their scheduling where associates are frequently working long daily hours and days without breaks. There is much written about stress in the workplace. Iâve known scores of employees who enjoyed their âcustomer contactâ jobs in small doses but felt stressed when it was either constant or extended over long shifts. I revert back to thoughts about baseball where teams switch from offense to defense during every single inning. Itâs no wonder that âgamificationâ is becoming more and more popular in business applications. Employees performing multiple ârolesâ is nothing new. Many jobs have multiple roles built in. But theyâre built into the job. But itâs still fairly common to keep people assigned, locked-in, to a particular job or department. In baseball, however, at all levels, the value of the âutility playerâ is recognized. In Bridge, the âno-trumpâ hand is considered the most difficult game to win â" and therefore offers the most points. A classic organizational management technique is âjob rotation.â Todayâs complex organizations should prompt them to consider revitalizing this process. It would benefit both the organization and the individuals selected. Does the âdesignated runnerâ rule key any possibilities? Why not recognize that in certain situations, you should call on a âspecialistâ to perform in a specific situation? Itâs not in any way demeaning to the person (who by the way just got a hit) and it doesnât remove the player from the game. Itâs an outstanding example of teamwork. The Little League rule of âEveryone must play â" everyone must batâ has an interesting connection to hiring. The Little League teams that play in their World Series attract the best players in their region, in their countries. The coaches identify and select young talent, talent thatâs capable of playing multiple positions well, talent that excels in at least one, perhaps two or more positions. There are clearly star performers based on their season performance. At the same time, other players often have the opportunity to âstarâ in a game â" and they often do. The rules of the game give everyone the opportunity to excel. The Ultimate Value Of Teamwork Itâs not mentioned in the ârulesâ, but the teams in the Little League World Series display the ultimate in competitiveness and sportsmanship. They definitely celebrate their individual and team successes, for individual at-bats and games. But they also acknowledge the successes of their opponents. Teams from Asia bow to the opposing teams and its fans after a game; they bow to their own families and supporters. They express gratitude for their success and for the support of their fans. Unique to Asian participants, NO! This is the same gratitude expressed by the bows of Broadway casts and hundreds of performers in gratitude for attending and applauding a performance. While itâs commonplace to be thanked for placing an order, e.g., in a restaurant, and itâs even common to be thanked upon payment by the server, Iâm always impressed by the business that also thanks me when Iâm leaving the building. On the other hand, Iâm unimpressed when I walk out of a theater or a stor e, and it feels like no one knows I was even there. And For Job Seekers While the messages from Little League Baseball are primarily for leaders and managers, there is a message here for job seekers as well. Job seekers should be expressing gratitude to potential employers â" even if they donât get the job or even the second interview. More importantly, the Little League nature of teamwork is something job seekers should consider. Emphasize the multiple roles played on a team in your resume or during an interview. Ask for opportunities to take on additional roles in your current position. Leaders, managers, and job seekers can learn a lot about outstanding performance from the outstanding performance of these 11 and 12-year old Little Leaguers.
